Lahore: Preparations are underway to introduce a new mechanism for collecting sanitation fees
in the urban areas of Punjab, including the provincial capital. The delivery of sanitation fee challans to citizens will commence from October 1. According to the Excise Department, the implementation of a uniform sanitation fee across Punjab’s urban areas will be ensured. The sanitation fee will be collected alongside property tax, and the Excise Department has already initiated preparations for revenue collection.
Under the new system, the monthly sanitation fees will be followed as Rs 300 for houses up to 5 marlas; Rs. 500 for houses between 5 and 10 marlas, Rs 1,000 for houses between 10 and 20 marlas, Rs 2,000 for houses between 20 and 40 marlas; and Rs. 5,000 for houses larger than 40 marlas.
For commercial units, the monthly sanitation fees have been set at Rs 500 for small units, Rs 1,000 for medium-sized units, and Rs 3,000 for large commercial units. The Excise Department will handle the printing of sanitation fee bills in conjunction with conducting door-to-door surveys. The department will also be responsible for addressing complaints and making any necessary corrections to the bills.
