Karachi

Karachi:The Government of Sindh has decided to digitalize and automate the transport department and commercial vehicle sectors.

The digitization of the Transport Department and its subsidiaries-SMTA, PTA, RTA, and Trans Karachi-has also commenced.

A high-level meeting was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Sharjeel Inam Memon, said a statement on Thursday.

On the occasion of the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon received a detailed briefing on the digitization and automation of the transport department and commercial vehicles.

Speaking at the meeting, the Sindh Senior Minister stated that with the digitization and automation of the transport department, PTAs are being connected under a software system. This will facilitate inter-provincial route permits and streamline the entire process.

He said that the system for issuing and renewing route permits is being made online. With digitization,
transporters will be able to apply for and renew route permits online, making the issuance of route permits, fitness certificates, and body makers’ permits easier and more efficient.

He said that a public complaint center will also be established, with all information being collected in the secretariat.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon issued directions for fortnightly progress reports on the digitization and automation system.

He said that bringing the transport system online will increase revenue and that the use of modern technology will bring transparency to the system.

In the first phase, the vehicle fitness certificate system is going online. Digitization will also help reduce accidents, allowing passengers to travel more safely.
