Sukkur: The Sindh Government has taken strict notice of the farmers’ protest against water shortage and water theft through lift machines in Taluka Faiz Ganj.
On the directives of Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro, the SDO of Faiz Ganj Sub Division, Rahmatullah Abro has been suspended.
According to handout issued here on Friday, the XEN East Division Khairpur has been removed from his post and directed to report to Karachi. Show cause notices have been issued to SE Khairpur and Chief Engineer Sukkur Barrage (Left Bank) Ghulam Mujtaba Dhamrah. It has been decided to take strict action against water theft through illegal pipelines and lift machines.
Action will be taken against negligent officers under the Efficiency and Discipline Rules, the spokesperson of the irrigation department added. The Chief Engineer Sukkur Barrage has been directed to shift his headquarters from Sukkur to Faiz Ganj for two months.
The Chief Engineer will stay in Faiz Ganj and ensure water supply to the tail-end growers, the spokesperson said. The fair distribution of water till the tail-end is the top priority of the Sindh Irrigation Department, the spokesperson said.
Strict action will be taken against any officer or official found involved in water theft or negligence, officials warned.
