SMIU VC leads Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir rally

Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) organised ‘Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir’ rally to show solidarity with Kashmiri people on Wednesday, which was led by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai.

The rally began at the university’s main building and concluded near the IT Tower. SMIU’s deans, heads of various academic departments, faculty members, officers, staff, and students participated in the event.

Addressing the rally, Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai strongly condemned India’s conspiracies against Illegally Indian Occupied Jamu and Kashmir and its people by revoking Article 370 of its constitution on August 5, 2019, which ended the special autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir by splitting it into two separate federal union territories, and placed them under direct central rule. He said that this action is not only a major conspiracy against the Kashmiri people but also a violation of United Nations resolutions adopted at various times in their favour.

He proposed the formation of a think tank comprising the country’s academia of all public and private sector universities, colleges and schools to think about what role we can play for Kashmiri people and how we can help them. He stated that the time for mere talk and speeches has passed; India is employing every form of oppression to maintain its hold on occupied Kashmir, so we must now play a practical role.

Dr. Sahrai suggested that we must provide guidance to Kashmiri people in areas such as education, research, defense, and other sectors. He urged every employee of Sindh Madressatul Islam University to play their part in this regard as well.
