Karachi: Spokesperson for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for Sindh, Barrister Raja Khaliq uz Zaman Ansari, on Thursday, said that Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has announced a package of Rs 25 billion for Karachi, which will be utilized in consultation with the business community, among others.
Barrister Raja Khaliq uz Zaman Ansari expressed these views while talking to media during a visit to the Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industries – KCCI here.
Earlier, Barrister Raja Khaliq uz Zaman Ansari visited the Chamber of Commerce, where he briefed the business community about the measures taken by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to address issues facing traders. These included infrastructure challenges, the Green Line and K-IV water projects, the supply of water and electricity, and the overall law and order situation in Sindh.
During his media interaction, Raja Ansari said, ‘I have come with a message from Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for the traders of Karachi. The Prime Minister has announced a package of Rs 25 billion for Karachi, which will be utilized in consultation with you. Today’s Karachi is not what it was in 2013 – it is becoming a peaceful and developed city, and the credit goes to the federal government.’
The President of the Chamber of Commerce, Rehan Hanif, along with other office bearers, warmly welcomed the Federal Government’s Spokesperson for Sindh, Barrister Raja Ansari.
Barrister Raja Khaliq uz Zaman Ansari said that Karachi is the only city in the entire country that receives 100 percent of its development funding from the federal government, and the Prime Minister wishes to further extend this support.
Barrister Raja Khaliq uz Zaman Ansari stated that major projects like the Green Line expansion, the K-IV water project, and the Common Corridor, as well as a new Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway via Jamshoro, are underway.
He mentioned that the Green Line extension project is expected to be completed by October 31, 2026, and that 70 percent of the 16-meter-long K-IV water project has already been completed. Once handed over to the Sindh government, the K-IV project will help resolve the city’s water issues, he observed.
He further said that despite limited resources after the 18th Amendment, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given Karachi special attention. The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate a new railway track in June 2026.
Of the Rs 25 billion allocated by the federal government, Rs 1 billion each has been reserved for roads in six industrial zones. In addition to these major projects, several smaller projects are being implemented through PDICL (Public Development Infrastructure Company Limited), he said.
On this occasion, the KCCI President Muhammad Rehan Hanif requested Barrister Raja Khaliq uz Zaman Ansari to invite the Prime Minister to the Export Trophy event. Raja Ansari assured him that the Prime Minister would soon visit the KCCI.
Barrister Raja Khaliq uz Zaman Ansari also assured the business community that he would raise their concerns regarding law and order directly with the Inspector General of Sindh in an upcoming meeting.
