Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken a historic step in the health sector and decided to establish stroke centres in every district of Punjab.
Under this new program, the facility of taking a stroke patient to the hospital within four hours and providing immediate treatment will be available, which will make it possible to prevent lifelong disability.
Modern stroke centers will be established in all district hospitals of Punjab, and expert neurologists and pediatric neurologists will be posted in every district.
CT scan machines will be ready at all times in every hospital and ‘tPA’ and modern ‘TNK’ injections will be available for stroke patients.
According to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, this stroke/stroke management program will be implemented across Punjab in phases.
First 30, then 15 and finally the remaining 24 district hospitals will have stroke centers. Physicians will be given special training so that they can acquire expertise in immediate treatment and injection.
The Chief Minister also announced a public awareness campaign to educate people about the symptoms of stroke and the importance of the four-hour ‘golden hour’. Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that her vision is that no patient needs to go to a distant city in case of emergency and every citizen should get immediate treatment at the nearest hospital.
This program is being described as a revolution in the health sector in Punjab and is a comprehensive plan to provide modern treatment facilities in every district of the province.
