Karachi: In a significant step towards promoting academic excellence and increasing access to higher education, Umar Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology.
Signed by Asad Umar, Former Finance Minister and Registrar Cdre (r) Syed Sarfraz Ali, SI (M), this partnership aims to provide both merit-based and need-based scholarships to deserving students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their educational aspirations. Asad Umar was hopeful that this partnership will greatly benefit students aspiring to achieve a brighter future.
Asad Umar expressed optimism about the partnership, stating that it will significantly benefit students aspiring for a brighter future. ‘This initiative is a crucial step in supporting those who dream of higher education and empowering them to achieve their goals,’ he remarked.
Expressing his views, Chancellor of Sir Syed University, Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan, highlighted the pivotal role of education in shaping the future of youth. Sir Syed University provides merit-based scholarships annually to encourage higher education and for the academic year 2025/26, the university has granted a total of Rs five (5) crore in scholarships to more than 1600 deserving students.
He commended the collaboration with Umar Foundation, noting that it perfectly aligns with the university’s mission to ensure quality education is accessible to everyone. This initiative will not only offer essential financial support but also motivate students to excel in their academic endeavors,” he remarked.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Afzal Haque emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting that it embodies a shared vision of nurturing talent and promoting educational equity. He expressed optimism that this initiative would pave the way for a brighter future for many aspiring scholars.
Registrar Cdre (r) Syed Sarfraz Ali, SI (M) said that the scholarships will be awarded based on merit and financial need, ensuring that students from diverse backgrounds can benefit from quality education at Sir Syed University.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Afzal Haque, Ms Sidra Imran, former Member of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Director Centre for Guidance, Career Planning and Placement, Dr Sarfraz Natha, and Cdre (r) Syed Sarfraz Ali SI (M), Registrar of Sir Syed University, Major (r) Aftab Lodhi TI. The event highlighted the commitment of both organizations to empower students and foster a culture of academic excellence.
