Karachi: The Spokesperson of the Sindh Government Sukhdev Hemnani on Tuesday distributed interest-free loan cheques worth a total of Rs 10 million among more than 50 beneficiaries, including women, under the Peoples Poverty Reduction Programme (PPRP), saying the Sindh Government remained focused on helping families build sustainable livelihoods, achieve economic self-reliance and strengthen women’s economic empowerment.
The financing will support women entrepreneurs, livestock, small businesses and other income-generating activities. One beneficiary received Rs 2.5 million to expand a scrap business, while others received smaller interest-free loans according to their livelihood and business needs.
The programme is being implemented in partnership with the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO).
Speaking as chief guest at the ceremony in Ghotki, Hemnani said PPRP reflected PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision of inclusive, people-cenred development and the party’s longstanding philosophy of Roti, Kapra aur Makaan.
‘PPP believes in empowering people, especially women, rather than keeping them dependent on assistance. When people are given the means to earn, establish businesses and create livelihoods, they are able to shape their own future. That is the foundation of sustainable development,’ he said.
Hemnani said more than 1.5 million families had benefited from PPRP through community-driven development, livelihood support and interest-free financing across Sindh, with women playing a central role in the programme.
He said the same philosophy of empowerment was reflected in the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF), under which women are being given ownership rights to their homes, strengthening their economic security and position within their families and communities.
‘Whether it is ownership of a livelihood through PPRP or ownership of a home through SPHF, our objective is the same: to give people dignity, economic security and greater control over their future,’ Hemnani said.
He also distributed solar kits and tree saplings among beneficiaries and reaffirmed the Sindh Government’s commitment to expanding sustainable livelihoods, women’s economic participation and opportunities for underserved communities across the province.
