Khanewal: Police have registered a case against three men for allegedly displaying firearms in public near the District Police Officer (DPO) office.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), a private vehicle stopped near a market close to the DPO office, from which three armed men emerged and allegedly displayed weapons in the presence of pedestrians, causing panic in the area.

Acting on the information, City Khanewal SHO, TSI Khalil Haider and a police team reached the spot and apprehended the suspects, identified as Usama Farooq, son of Farooq Khan; Talha Farooq, son of Umar Farooq Khan; and Zeeshan Farooq, son of Farooq.

Police recovered two 9mm pistols, a repeater rifle and ammunition from their possession. The suspects produced licences for the weapons at the scene.

During preliminary questioning, the suspects told police that a case (FIR No. 580/26) under Sections 365, 337-V, 292, 148 and 149 was already registered against them at Kacha Koh Police Station. They said they had come to the DPO office to seek a change of investigating officer in the case.

Police said that despite holding arms licences, the suspects had allegedly displayed the weapons publicly in violation of the Punjab Arms Ordinance. Legal proceedings have been initiated against them.
