Multan: A non-governmental organisation, under its large-scale food fortification project, organised one-day training sessions for salt manufacturers from Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa and Rajanpur districts.
The sessions focused on effective salt iodization, food fortification standards and food safety requirements. Participants were briefed on iodine deficiency disorders, the importance of iodine in the diet, proper iodization methods and international standards for iodized salt.
Nutrition International Provincial Programme Manager South Punjab Ehtisham-ul-Haq Tariq and Zonal Managers Amjad Ali and Atta-ul-Kareem Khan facilitated the training sessions.
A special session was also conducted on gender equality, with emphasis on providing women with a safe, supportive and conducive working environment at salt processing units.
Officials from the Punjab Food Authority briefed participants on food safety regulations, quality control measures, monitoring parameters and legal requirements applicable to salt processing units.
The training also provided an opportunity for salt processors to discuss practical challenges faced in their operations. Participants were encouraged to ensure compliance with food fortification and food safety standards to improve the quality and safety of iodized salt.
