District

Peshawar: Bannu Police on Wednesday claimed to have foiled an attack by suspected militants during a search-and-strike operation in the Shadiu area within the limits of Huwed Police Station, injuring two attackers in an exchange of fire.

According to a police spokesperson, the militants opened fire on the police party during the operation. Police personnel responded promptly, leading to a gun battle in which two militants were reportedly injured.

The spokesperson said the injured militants were taken away by their accomplices, who managed to escape from the scene.

A Kalashnikov rifle, bloodstains and spent bullet casings were recovered from the site, indicating that the attackers had sustained injuries during the exchange.

Police said a search operation has been expanded in the area, while raids are being carried out at various locations to trace and arrest the fleeing suspects.

District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Furqan Bilal praised the police personnel for their courage, professionalism and swift response, announcing cash rewards for the officers involved in the operation.

He warned that Bannu Police would continue operations against militant elements with full determination, adding that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the force’s top priority and that there would be no safe haven for terrorists in the district.
