Unsafe meat destroyed, shops sealed, FIR registered during New Murree crackdown

Rawalpindi: The district administration has launched a major crackdown in New Murree against profiteers and sellers of unsafe food items, destroying unhygienic meat, sealing two meat shops and registering an FIR against a shopkeeper.

The operation was conducted by price control teams on the special directives of Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi following repeated complaints of overcharging, sale of expired products and supply of substandard and spoiled meat in the area.

Acting on the complaints, a district administration team conducted a surprise inspection of the market, where serious violations of food and pricing regulations were found at several shops. Officials found that spoiled and hazardous meat was being sold to citizens and tourists at prices higher than the officially notified rates.

The administration immediately destroyed the spoiled and foul-smelling meat by applying acid to ensure that it could not be consumed. Two meat shops were subsequently sealed over violations, while an FIR was registered against a shopkeeper in a serious case.

Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi said the administration would not compromise on public health and the rights of citizens and tourists at the popular tourist destination.

He added that surprise crackdowns against profiteering, adulteration and the sale of unsafe food would continue without discrimination.
