Multan:A meeting chaired by Multan division Commissioner, Aamir Karim Khan, reviewed targets for wheat cultivation for the 2026-27 season as wheat cultivation target for Multan division set at 1.776 million across. Deputy commissioners of Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran and Vehari, along with agriculture department officials and representatives of other relevant departments, attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that a target of 1.776 million acres has been set for wheat cultivation across Multan division during the current season, compared with last year’s target of 1.760 million acres. District-wise targets included 4,45,000 acres for Multan, 5,03,000 acres for Khanewal, 3,76,000 acres for Lodhran and 4,52,000 acres for Vehari. Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan directed the authorities to ensure wheat cultivation on all land being allotted under the Apna Khet Apna Rozgar programme.
He said coordinated strategies should be adopted at district and tehsil levels to achieve the cultivation targets. He directed the Agriculture department and district administrations to provide farmers with timely guidance, quality seed, fertilizers, irrigation water and information about modern agricultural practices. The commissioner also ordered strict action against overpricing of fertilizers and seeds, stressing that farmers must be provided quality inputs at officially notified rates. The meeting also emphasized soil testing and the use of fertilizers according to crop requirements. The commissioner said farmers should be educated on soil health and nutrient deficiencies on scientific lines to improve crop productivity through balanced fertilizer use. A detailed briefing was also given on the availability of canal water.
The commissioner directed the Irrigation department to coordinate with the relevant authorities and establish appropriate water-supply schedules for different areas so that wheat cultivation is not affected and farmers receive irrigation water on time.
He further directed intensified measures to prevent the burning of crop residues and ordered that the anti-smog campaign be conducted on an emergency basis, with effective field-level action against stubble burning.
The meeting reviewed the availability of quality wheat seed and fertilizers, farmer awareness programmes, training of field officers, coordination with seed dealers, the announcement of support prices and other relevant matters.
Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan said achieving wheat cultivation targets was a collective responsibility of all concerned departments. He directed the district administrations and Agriculture department to maintain effective coordination in the field and provide maximum possible facilities to farmers.
