ISLAMABAD:Food Department of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would provide food subsidy of Rs 15 billion during next financial year to facilitate the poor population of the province.
Provincial Minister for Food and Information Technology, Atif Khan said this while addressing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ceremony with World Food Program (WFP) here on delivery of wheat and computerization of all provincial warehouses.
Country Director WFP, Chris Kaye and Secretary Food Department KP, Khushal Khan inked the MoU on behalf their respective organizations. Senior officials of both sides also attended the ceremony.
Atif Khan said in order to modernize and computerization of all wheat storage systems in the province, the WFP would provide financial and technical assistance.
He said introduction of modern systems would help eradicate corruption in food department.
The provincial government was also introducing new strict food security laws while a training program for food inspectors would be launched to improve their working, he added.
Secretary Food Department KP Khushal Khan thanked WFP for providing technical and financial assistance to KP Food Department and termed it as positive initiative.
