1, 670 FIRs registered, 440 premises sealed for dengue SOP violations


Rawalpindi: The District Health Administration, in collaboration with allied departments, had registered 1, 670 First Information Reports (FIRs) and sealed 440 premises for violations of anti-dengue standard operating procedures (SOPs) from January 1 to date.



District Coordinator, Epidemics Prevention and Control (DCEPC), Dr Jawad Ahmed, said on Sunday that the authorities had also issued 1, 565 challans and imposed fines totalling Rs1, 974, 000 on violators across the district.



Giving details of surveillance activities, he said 1, 460 anti-dengue teams had conducted indoor inspections at 391, 747 houses since January 1 and detected larvae at 74, 392 houses.



During outdoor surveillance, the teams inspected 1, 338, 647 locations and found larvae at 87, 408 sites, he added.



Dr Jawad Ahmed said six confirmed dengue cases had been reported in the district so far this year, compared with 68 during the corresponding period in 2025, 33 in 2024 and 73 in 2023.



A comprehensive anti-dengue campaign was being carried out across Rawalpindi district to prevent the spread of the virus, the health officer said.



He said prevention of the disease was a priority of the government and the district health administration was working round the clock to avert any possible outbreak.



The dengue situation in the Rawalpindi region was under control, he said and added that the city’s hospitals had made extensive arrangements for the treatment of dengue patients, adding that all possible preventive measures were in place to deal with any eventuality.



He urged residents to remain vigilant and regularly check junkyards, schools and under-construction buildings, which could serve as breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes.



The health officer also advised citizens to prevent stagnant water from accumulating in or around their homes and workplaces to help curb dengue breeding.
