Peshawar: The district administration of Kohat has imposed a three-month ban on swimming and boating in all major water bodies to prevent drowning incidents and ensure public safety during the peak summer season.

According to an official notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nawaz under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.P.C.), the ban applies to dams, rivers, canals, water channels, rainwater ponds, spillways and other hazardous water bodies across the district.

The administration said the decision was taken in view of the increased risk of drowning as rising temperatures attract large numbers of people to water bodies for recreation.

The notification warned that anyone violating the ban would face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The order has been circulated to all relevant departments, including the district police and irrigation authorities, directing them to ensure strict implementation of the restrictions.

Officials urged the public, particularly parents, to discourage children and young people from entering unsafe water bodies and to cooperate with the administration in preventing avoidable loss of life during the summer months.

Sialkot: Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Saba Asghar Ali on Thursday chaired the first meeting of the newly constituted Governing Body of the Centre of Excellence Danish Schools, highlighting the importance of its role in improving educational standards and institutional governance.

According to a spokesperson for the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the meeting was attended by Principal Centre of Excellence (Boys) Shahbaz Hassan, Principal Centre of Excellence (Girls) Lady Anderson Higher Secondary School Syeda Iram Shirazi, governing body members Chaudhry Shakeel, Dr Maryam Nauman, Fareeda Khawar, Muhammad Owais and other relevant officials.

The deputy commissioner said the governing body would play a key role in achieving the objectives of the Punjab government’s flagship education project through effective administration and quality education. She expressed hope that members would work collectively to provide students with modern educational facilities and an improved learning environment.

The meeting reviewed academic standards, institutional performance, student welfare, administrative affairs and ongoing development initiatives. The deputy commissioner directed all relevant departments to ensure close coordination for the continuous improvement of educational facilities in line with the Punjab government’s vision.

Malakand: A 30-year-old worker was injured after being struck by a chainsaw while working at a timber yard in the Amandara area of Malakand on Wednesday, rescue officials said.

According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, emergency medical personnel and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving the report of the accident. The injured worker, identified as Dilbar, suffered a serious hand injury.

Rescue workers provided first aid at the scene before shifting the injured man to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Batkhela for further medical treatment.

Bahawalpur: A man died on-the-spot and his wife sustained critical injuries as their motorcycle struck against a tractor-trolley parked on roadside in Head Rajkan area of Yazman tehsil of the district.

According to Rescue-1122 officials, a tractor-trolley was parked along a road when a motorcycle carrying a couple approached from behind. ‘The riders failed to notice the stationary tractor-trolley in time and collided with it,’ they said, adding that as a result of the collision, man sustained a severe neck injury and died at the scene while his wife suffered a head injury.

Rescue personnel provided her with the first aid before shifting her to Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) for further medical treatment. The deceased’s body was handed over to his family. Deceased was identified as 55-years-old Pervaiz. The injured was recognised as 50-years-old Khalida. They were residents of Chak-42 DB Yazman.

Hyderabad: A dignified cheque distribution ceremony was held at DIGP Shaheed Benazirabad Range Office, and DIG Faisal Bashir Memon presided over the ceremony.

The event was organized to provide financial assistance to deserving police officers and personnel through the Welfare Revolving Fund. Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from all three districts of the range also attended the ceremony.

On the occasion, cheques were distributed in a total of 96 cases under various welfare schemes. These included 11 cases of Immediate Relief, 36 cases of Retirement Grant, and 49 cases of Wedding Gift.

Speaking at the ceremony, DIGP Faisal Bashir Memon said that Sindh Police places the welfare of its officers and personnel as a top priority.

He emphasized that such welfare initiatives aim to provide timely support and assistance to police employees and their families during difficult circumstances, enabling them to perform their duties with greater dedication and commitment.

At the conclusion of ceremony, DIGP distributed cheques among the deserving personnel and reaffirmed the commitment to continue welfare-related initiatives in future also.

Rawalpindi: Managing Director, Suthra Punjab Agency(SPA), Rawalpindi, Rana Sajid Safdar, on Thursday, awarded certificates of appreciation to operational staff in recognition of their outstanding sanitation services during Muharram-ul-Haram.

Rana Sajid, accompanied by Chief Financial Officer Bilal Khawar, presented certificates to operations officers, supervisors and sanitation workers who remained on duty round the clock during Muharram-ul-Haram.

Addressing the ceremony, the MD praised the field staff for their dedication and professionalism in ensuring cleanliness, efficient waste collection and the timely cleaning of procession routes, Imambargahs and venues of religious gatherings.

He said sanitation workers were the Agency’s greatest asset and their tireless efforts played a key role in providing citizens with a clean, safe and healthy environment. He added that the management would continue to recognise and encourage outstanding performance to promote a culture of dedicated public service.

Speaking on behalf of the workforce, the operational staff thanked the management for recognising their services and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the same level of dedication in serving the public in future.
