Sargodha: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Friday seized and disposed of 14 maunds of unhygienic meat during a raid on an illegal slaughterhouse operating in a residential area of Sargodha.

According to a PFA spokesperson,the action was taken on a tip-off at a house in Block 22 near Chandni Chowk, where an illegal slaughtering setup was allegedly being run.

A veterinary doctor accompanying the PFA team examined the meat and declared it unfit for human consumption after finding that the animals were sick and the meat had developed a foul smell.

The confiscated meat was shifted to a designated dumping site for scientific disposal while an FIR was registered against the suspects at the relevant police station.

The PFA officials urged citizens to report food safety violations through the authority’s 1223 helpline.

Faisalabad: The second steering committee meeting of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC) was held at Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF), here on Friday.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen (T.I.) chaired the meeting, while former president FCCI and Chief Executive Officer KEY and EMMs (Pvt.) Ltd. Dr. Khurram Tariq were also in presence.

The meeting was attended by Director Interloop Farzana Musadaq, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Allied Traders M Azhar Chaudhry and Dr Muhammad Usama from FAST. Director ORIC Dr Sadia Asim presented the Centre’s progress report and meeting agenda. The committee reviewed and finalised key performance indicators (KPIs) to translate research into revenue.

The Intellectual Property Rights and Commercialization Policy 2026 was also presented to the members for feedback. Industry representatives assured cooperation in research projects, professional training, and industrial exposure for GCWUF students and researchers.

In a significant development, Dr. Khurram Tariq announced industry-funded startup grants for selected students, supported by Ms. Farzana Musadaq and Mr. M. Azhar Chaudhry.

Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen emphasized stronger academia-industry alignment to develop GCWUF as a hub of innovation and informed the members that the University’s Finance and Planning Committee had approved funding for research, commercialization, and outreach.

The productive meeting concluded with practical steps to strengthen research, innovation, commercialization, and academia-industry collaboration.

Hyderabad: Qatar Charity organized a welfare distribution ceremony in Sanghar on Friday to assist underprivileged families by providing sewing machines to deserving women, wheelchairs to persons with disabilities and domestic flour mills to needy households as part of its livelihood support program.

Addressing the ceremony, District Coordinator Sajjad Khan said the organisation, in collaboration with the district administration, was committed to empowering vulnerable communities through sustainable income-generating opportunities. He said the sewing machines would enable women to earn a livelihood from their homes, while the wheelchairs would improve mobility and independence for persons with disabilities.

He added that the distribution of domestic flour mills would help beneficiary families establish a sustainable source of income and improve their economic conditions.

On the occasion, the beneficiaries thanked the organization and the philanthropists supporting the initiative, saying the assistance would bring positive changes to their lives and help them achieve self-reliance.

Additional Director Social Welfare Shafqat Hussain Solangi, Rahila Khaskheli, Abdul Aziz, Rashid Ali and other social workers also attended the ceremony.

Multan: A vibrant reunion of Bahauddin Zakariya University(BZU) English Dept brought together a galaxy of former and current students, faculty members and literary enthusiasts, celebrating the department’s rich academic and cultural legacy.

The colourful event, held at Institute of Media Communication Studies, was attended by alumni from different parts of the country who reunited with their teachers and classmates after many years. The evening featured literary performances, nostalgic reflections and renewed commitments to strengthening ties between the department and its graduates.

BZU VC Dr Zubair Iqbal, the chief guest, urged alumni to remain actively connected with their alma mater and contribute to its continued growth. He said the university had made remarkable progress in international rankings through sustained academic and research excellence, adding that such achievements should inspire graduates to give back to the institution that shaped their careers.

He also commended Chairperson Dr Sanobra Rizwan and her team for organising what he described as a beautifully planned and memorable reunion that successfully revived old bonds while fostering new collaborations.

Former chairperson Dr Mobina Talat recalled her cherished memories both as a student and later as a teacher in the department. She reflected on the lifelong friendships, academic experiences and literary traditions that had defined the department over the decades. Stressing the importance of sustained engagement, she proposed the creation of a comprehensive alumni database to strengthen networking, mentorship opportunities and future departmental initiatives.

Adding a literary flavour to the evening, three participants, including two distinguished alumni, recited poetry that received enthusiastic applause from the audience. Their performances celebrated the department’s enduring association with literature, creativity and the arts.

The cultural segment also featured a captivating performance by Zakarian Society member M. Nauman, whose presentation added further colour and entertainment to the reunion.

Alumni shared memories of their student days, exchanged experiences from their professional lives and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the department’s academic and extracurricular activities. Many described the reunion as an emotional homecoming that rekindled lifelong friendships and renewed their sense of belonging to the BZU family.

Multan: Commissioner Multan Amir Kareem Khan on Friday ordered steps to strengthen the professional capacity of prosecutors and impart legal training to officers of government departments to improve quality of prosecution and ensure effective follow-up of official cases.

Presiding over a meeting of the divisional performance review committee, commissioner reviewed the performance of the prosecution department, pending Challans, trial progress and prosecution of cases.

Commissioner Khan said, legal awareness and training for officers of departments including Wildlife, Agriculture, Forests, Local Government and Environment were essential to strengthen official cases and remove deficiencies in investigation and prosecution.

He said the individual performance of prosecutors was being monitored, while district-wise data on FIRs, received Challans, partial and complete Challans, and pending Challans was being regularly evaluated.

He directed that the number of cases entering trial and those decided by courts should also be reported on a regular basis for effective monitoring.

The meeting also reviewed litigation involving government departments. Commissioner instructed officials to maintain separate data for government and private cases to facilitate better analysis and monitoring.

Amir Kareem Khan promised necessary logistical support to further improve prosecution department performance, adding that regular evaluation would encourage healthy competition among officers and enhance institutional efficiency.

He also directed that monthly prosecution performance meetings be held at the district level and stressed the need for stronger coordination between the district administration and the prosecution department.

Well-prepared prosecution and comprehensive legal documentation were key to the effective disposal of cases, he said and asked all departments to submit practical proposals for improving their working in the larger public interest.

Sargodha: Deputy Commissioner Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry on Friday directed the relevant authorities to ensure that the restoration of Feroz Khan Noon Park, Chak No 47 North, is not confined to construction work alone, but is followed by continuous maintenance, cleanliness, repair, and security arrangements.

According to the spokesperson for the DC office here, The DC visited the park along with Director Horticulture Authority Muhammad Arshad Wattoo and other concerned officials to review the ongoing restoration and development work.

Speaking on the occasion, Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry said that beautification and construction of parks must be accompanied by a sustainable mechanism for their upkeep.

He stressed that maintaining parks in the best possible condition for public use was the responsibility of the concerned departments.

He directed officials to intensify the monsoon tree plantation campaign by planting maximum saplings across parks and public spaces.

He also emphasized the provision of improved and secure recreational facilities for women and families, along with effective security arrangements.

The DC further instructed the Horticulture Authority to explore additional recreational facilities under the public-private partnership model in order to enhance public amenities.

He said that providing citizens with quality, safe, and pleasant recreational environments was among the priorities of the district administration.

Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry also directed the Director Horticulture Authority to conduct a fresh detailed inspection of all parks across the district and prepare a comprehensive report covering their current condition, restoration needs, repair work, cleanliness, security arrangements, and available facilities, so that better, safer, and quality recreational facilities could be ensured for the public.
