Rawalpindi: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi, Babar Sarfraz Alpa held an open court (Khuli Katchery) at Lillah Police Station in Jhelum to address public complaints here on Saturday.

District Police Officer (DPO) Jhelum, Shafique Ahmed Chaudhry was also present on the occasion, besides, a large number of citizens who presented their complaints, suggestions and concerns.

The RPO personally heard the applications and directed the relevant officers to resolve the issues immediately in accordance with merit and the law.

Speaking on the occasion, Babar Sarfraz Alpa stressed the need to further improve public service delivery, ensure courteous behaviour towards citizens and provide timely justice.

He said the police were committed to serving the public and that the prompt and transparent resolution of citizens’ grievances remained their top priority. He said the objective of holding open courts was to reach out to people directly, listen to their complaints.

The RPO added that such public forums were playing an effective role in strengthening trust between the police and the community and that the initiative would be further expanded.

During the proceedings, he also raised awareness about the protection of children, prevention of harassment and the importance of promptly reporting such incidents to the police.

He urged parents to pay special attention to the safety, supervision and guidance of their children to protect them from exploitation and harassment.

At the conclusion of the visit, the RPO inspected Lillah Police Station, reviewing the station’s record, lock-up, front desk and other operational matters.

He issued directions aimed at further improving public service delivery.

Multan: The divisional administration and the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) have announced plans to beautify two major intersections of the city under a joint initiative.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Commissioner Aamir Karim to review the improvement and beautification of city intersections in line with the directions of the Punjab government. Managing Director PHA Waseem Hassan and officials of the concerned departments attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Chowk at Chungi No. 14 and Bahawalpur Bypass Chowk would be upgraded with modern landscaping, aesthetic structures and extensive tree plantation to enhance the city’s beauty and promote greenery.

Commissioner Aamir Karim said the remaining intersections of the city would also be improved in phases to make them more attractive. He directed that all development work be carried out in a transparent manner while maintaining high construction standards.

He said the administration was giving equal importance to monument construction, landscaping and plantation, adding that all projects would be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

MD PHA Waseem Hassan said the Punjab chief minister’s green initiative would be implemented across the city to enhance the urban environment.

Sargodha: Commissioner Hafiz Shoukat Ali presided over a video-link meeting to review progress on the identification of high-value government properties and measures aimed at increasing revenue through the effective utilisation of public assets.

According to the spokesperson for the Commissioner’s office here on Saturday, Deputy commissioners and Additional Deputy Commissioners (Revenue) from Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali and Bhakkar attended the meeting and briefed the commissioner on the identification of valuable government properties, progress made so far, ongoing revenue-generation initiatives and future plans in their respective districts.

The commissioner directed all district administrations to prepare a comprehensive record of high-value government assets, ensure the productive use of underutilised properties and expedite practical proposals to enhance government revenue in line with official policy.

He emphasised that efficient utilisation of public resources, transparent governance and sound financial management were key priorities under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

He urged all relevant departments to work in close coordination to maximise returns from government assets for the public benefit.

Hafiz Shoukat Ali also instructed deputy commissioners to accelerate progress in line with assigned targets and ensure regular reporting so that revenue-generation projects could deliver tangible results at the earliest.

Dera ismail khan: Acting on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan, Assistant Commissioner Paharpur Shahab Ahmad Khan, carried out a detailed inspection of Paharpur Bazaar to ensure compliance with official price regulations and municipal standards.

During the visit, the assistant commissioner inspected various shops, checked official price lists, and reviewed cleanliness arrangements in the market. Five shopkeepers were found operating without displaying mandatory price lists and were issued strict warnings besides being fined under the relevant rules.

The assistant commissioner also took notice of temporary encroachments in the bazaar and directed the Town Municipal Officer (TMO) to launch an immediate operation to remove illegal structures and obstructions from public spaces.

He said that no encroachment on government land would be tolerated and warned that indiscriminate legal action would be taken against all violators in accordance with the law.

Rawalpindi: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) conducted seven operations across the country following arrest of 10 drug suppliers and recovered 487.31 kilograms of narcotics worth more than Rs38.2 million, an ANF spokesperson said on Saturday.

As part of its international drug interdiction, ANF recovered 1.9 kg of ice (methamphetamine) from the luggage of three passengers, including two women, at Bacha Khan International Airport.

The suspects, who were attempting to board a flight to Jeddah, were arrested.

In another operation at Islamabad International Airport, ANF recovered 6.5 kg of ice concealed inside the luggage of three passengers travelling to Jeddah. All the accused were taken into custody.

During domestic operations, ANF seized 410.4 kg of hashish from a truck near Ring Road in Peshawar and arrested the driver.

In Lahore, 25.2 kg of hashish were recovered from a rickshaw near Multan Road, and one suspect was arrested.

In Quetta, 19.2 kg of hashish concealed in a fibre box inside a parcel were recovered during an operation at a courier office on Spinny Road.

Meanwhile, 18 kg of hashish were seized from a truck near the Indus Highway in Jamshoro, leading to the arrest of one suspect.

In another operation near the National Highway in Hyderabad, ANF arrested a passenger with 6 kg of hashish.

Cases were registered against the arrested suspects under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act (CNSA), 1997 and investigations were underway, the spokesperson said.

Abbottabad: Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad, Sarmad Saleem Akram on Saturday chaired a meeting to review transporters’ welfare, the management of transport terminals, the fare system, and measures to safeguard passengers’ rights.

The meeting was attended by officials from the district administration, Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Traffic Police, transport associations, and terminal contractors.

The meeting was informed that the existing terminal fee rates had been approved through the prescribed legal procedure and that no collection beyond the officially notified rates would be tolerated. The Deputy Commissioner directed authorities to initiate legal action against anyone found charging excess fees, adding that any revision in the fee structure would remain suspended until approved by the competent authority.

A zero-tolerance policy was also announced against passenger overcharging, misconduct, and other complaints. Officials were instructed to impose strict penalties on violators, including fines and impounding of vehicles where necessary.

To improve regulation of public transport, the Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) was directed to launch an immediate crackdown on illegal transport terminals and ensure that all public transport vehicles operate only from officially approved terminals. The meeting also agreed that all vehicles possessing valid route permits would be granted non-discriminatory access to transport terminals for the boarding and disembarking of passengers.

The Deputy Commissioner further directed transport associations to refrain from unnecessary interference in terminal management, appoint only one or two authorised managers, and submit affidavits affirming their commitment to implementing administrative decisions, eliminating overcharging, and protecting passengers’ rights.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram reaffirmed that providing safe, fair, and quality

transport services to passengers, ensuring transparency in the transport system, and promoting the genuine welfare of the transport community remain the district administration’s top priorities. He said all relevant departments would work in close coordination to ensure effective implementation of these decisions and uphold the principles of good governance.
