Sukkur: A World Bank Environmental and Social Safeguards Mission visited the Social Resettlement and Management Plan (SRMP) project being implemented by the Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) in collaboration with the Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA) to assess the progress and impact of ongoing interventions.

According to SRSO Spokesperson here on Tuesday, the visit began with a detailed presentation by SIDA officials, who briefed the delegation on the overall implementation status of the SRMP. The SRSO Regional team also presented an overview of the project’s achievements, highlighting key milestones and community-level outcomes.

During a field visit to Village Punho Qambrani, Union Council Seri, the World Bank delegation met women entrepreneurs who shared their experiences of increased household income and economic empowerment achieved through SRSO’s livelihood support initiatives.

The delegation also inspected climate resilient houses, solar energy systems, and kitchen gardens established under the project. The team observed notable improvements in living standards, environmental sustainability, and the resilience of beneficiary families.

At the conclusion of the visit, the World Bank delegation and SIDA officials appreciated SRSO’s efforts in successfully implementing the project and acknowledged its significant contribution to promoting sustainable livelihoods and socio-economic development in the project communities.

Sialkot: In-charge of the Federal Ombudsman Regional Office Gujranwala Malik Mushtaq Ahmad Awan visited the Sialkot International Airport to review passenger services and hear public complaints. During the visit, he met arriving and departing passengers and chaired a meeting attended by representatives of the airport management, Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), Airport Security Force (ASF), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan Customs, Protector of Emigrants, Passport Office, AirSial, PIA and other relevant departments.

Airport authorities briefed the delegation on passenger facilitation, security arrangements and operational standards, while Customs, FIA and ASF officials highlighted measures for law enforcement, immigration monitoring and multi-layered security.

Malik Mushtaq Ahmad Awan appreciated the airport’s overall management, cleanliness and security, saying that providing quality services to passengers is a shared responsibility of all concerned institutions.

Later, he visited the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), where he met office-bearers and discussed issues faced by industrialists and exporters. He assured them that the Federal Ombudsman Office would extend all possible cooperation in resolving complaints falling within its jurisdiction.

Rawalpindi: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi, Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir, on Tuesday directed the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) to further strengthen monitoring of sanitation operations, ensure accountability for negligence without discrimination and improve cleanliness standards in rural areas.

He issued the directives while chairing a meeting during his visit to the RWMC head office.

Managing Director Suthra Punjab Agency(SPA), Rawalpindi and Chief Executive Officer RWMC Rana Sajid Safdar gave a detailed briefing on the company’s sanitation operations, field monitoring, fleet management, public awareness campaigns, digital systems and administrative affairs.

He informed the meeting that more than 3,772 sanitation workers were maintaining cleanliness across Rawalpindi in two shifts, while over 1,000 tons of municipal waste were collected and transported daily through a fleet of more than 376 operational vehicles.

Later, the DC visited the RWMC Control Room, where he was briefed on the digital monitoring system for sanitation operations, workforce tracking, attendance management, fleet monitoring and other operational mechanisms.

Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir, who is also the Chairman of RWMC, directed the management to make the monitoring mechanism more effective by introducing a modern tracking system for sanitation workers, conducting a comprehensive survey of waste heaps across the city, preparing updated data on all waste containers and obtaining the required certification after completion of the surveys.

He stressed that negligence and poor performance should be addressed through an effective accountability system, while special attention should be given to improving sanitation standards in rural areas.

Appreciating the performance of RWMC, the DC said the organisation was delivering efficient services due to its experienced workforce. He added that the timely and transparent payment of employees’ salaries reflected the company’s sound administrative management.

CEO Rana Sajid Safdar assured the deputy commissioner that all directives would be implemented within the stipulated timeframe. He reaffirmed RWMC’s commitment to using modern technology, effective monitoring and transparent management practices to make Rawalpindi a cleaner, greener and model city.
