Attock: Police in Pakistan’s Attock district arrested five suspected drug dealers in separate operations and seized heroin, hashish and locally produced liquor, officials said on Sunday.

According to police, the arrests were made during routine checking operations carried out by teams from Jand, Fateh Jang and Basal police stations.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Muhammad Arif of Jand police arrested a suspect identified as Zafar Iqbal and recovered 1,100 grams of heroin from his possession. In a separate operation, ASI Qamar Abbas apprehended Asim Malik and seized 600 grams of hashish.

Meanwhile, ASI Ahmad Umar of Fateh Jang police arrested Mudassar Saeed after recovering 1,500 grams of hashish during a checking operation.

In another raid, ASI Aqeel Raees of Basal police arrested Mubeen and recovered 1,520 grams of hashish, while ASI Jameel Akhtar arrested Muzafar Hussain after allegedly recovering 20 litres of locally produced liquor from his possession.

Police said separate cases had been registered against the suspects under relevant narcotics and liquor laws, and further investigations were underway.\395

Mirpurkhas: On the occasion of the National Day of Persons with Disabilities, wheelchairs, tricycles, and other assistive devices were distributed among persons with disabilities at a ceremony organized by the Mirpurkhas Special Sports and Welfare Association (Gulistan-e-Mazooran) with the support of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD).

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Secretary Sports Munawar Ali Mahesar said that the efforts of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to empower persons with disabilities have significantly improved the lives of special individuals across the province. He also announced that an All Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Tournament would soon be organized in Mirpurkhas.

Praising the Mirpurkhas Special Sports and Welfare Association for its 25 years of service, he described the organization’s performance, transparency, and efforts to promote sports as commendable and announced government jobs for two educated persons with disabilities associated with the organization.

Speaking on the occasion, the association’s Patron Afaq Ahmed Khan, President Qamaruddin Malik, and Lal Baloch (IE Hyderabad) thanked the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Secretary of DEPD, the Director General, and the Regional Director Mirpurkhas for their support.

They said that, with their cooperation, wheelchairs, tricycles, and other assistive devices are being distributed among persons with disabilities from Mirpurkhas, Digri, Kot Ghulam Muhammad, Kunri, and Sindhri, enabling them to become active and productive members of society.

Multan: An elderly man was killed in a road accident on Basti Shah Hussain road on Monday.

Rescue-1122 said that Ashiq Muhammad,73, s/o Rajab Ali was travelling on motorcycle when he collided with a dumper truck while overtaking.Consequently,he suffered severe head injury and died on the spot.

The body was handed over to the heirs by the police.

Further investigation was underway.

Rawalpindi: Additional District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi Muhammad Ahmad Saeed Sheikh has dismissed the interim bail of Malik Arif, the prime suspect in the Nishat Cinema land dispute and Khalid Patwari murder case, due to non-prosecution.

The court also dismissed the interim bail application of co-accused Malik Asif after he withdrew his plea.

During the hearing, Additional District Public Prosecutor Shahid Zafar appeared before the court. Co-accused Malik Asif was present along with his counsel, whereas Malik Arif failed to appear. Consequently, the court dismissed Malik Arif’s interim bail due to persistent absence and non-prosecution, while Malik Asif’s bail was dismissed upon withdrawal.

The bail applications were dismissed in connection with the murder case of Khalid Patwari registered at the Chontra Police Station.

According to the police, the case was registered on May 2 this year on the complaint of Usman Khalid under sections 302, 324, 148, 149, and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The FIR states that at the behest of Malik Arif and Malik Asif, suspects Yasir, Hasan, and Imtiaz, along with three unidentified accomplices, allegedly opened fire during an attempted land grab on the complainant’s property. The firing resulted in the death of the complainant’s father and left Usman Khalid and his employee Hussain injured.

Kohat: In response to public complaints and under the directives of Deputy Commissioner Kohat, Mohammad Nawaz, a team led by Additional Assistant Commissioner Arooba Iftikhar conducted an inspection of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) shops across various areas of the city.

During the operation, the inspection team visited shops located on Bannu Road, Pindi Road, and the KDA area. The investigation confirmed that LPG was being sold at prices ranging from PKR 340 to PKR 360 per kilogram, which aligns with current open market rates.

The district administration reported that no instances of overcharging or illegal LPG sales were observed during the inspection. All vendors were found to be adhering to the government-mandated price list.

The Deputy Commissioner’s office reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring market prices to protect consumers from price gouging and ensuring strict compliance with official regulations.

Hyderabad: As climate change continues to intensify the frequency and severity of natural disasters, experts have underscored the need for adopting modern technologies, strengthening community preparedness and promoting scientific planning to minimize disaster risks.

The observations were made at the inauguration of a two-day training workshop on ‘Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Hazard Mapping and Evacuation Planning’, jointly organized by the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam and CWSA Pakistan. More than 40 students from various disciplines across Sindh are participating in the program.

According to a statement ixssued by the spokesperson of SAU, inaugurating the workshop, SAU Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof Dr Altaf Ali Siyal said climate change had emerged as one of the most pressing global challenges, making disaster preparedness and community resilience more important than ever. He stressed that the effective use of modern technologies for hazard mapping, early warning and disaster forecasting could significantly reduce the impacts of natural calamities.

He said educational institutions had a key role to play in preparing young people to tackle emerging environmental challenges through practical knowledge and professional training. He expressed confidence that the participants would utilize the skills acquired during the workshop to promote disaster awareness and resilience in their communities.

Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology Prof Dr Munir Ahmed Mangrio said the world was witnessing an increasing number of climate-induced disasters including floods, earthquakes and extreme weather conditions. He emphasized that scientific planning and technology-driven disaster management were essential for reducing risks and safeguarding communities.

Prof Dr Mashooq Ali Talpur said the training program would strengthen participants’ understanding of community-based disaster management, hazard mapping, disaster risk reduction and evacuation planning, enabling them to respond more effectively during emergencies.

The Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee, particularly Prof Dr Irfan Ahmed Shaikh, Prof Dr Munir Ahmed Mangrio, Prof Dr Mashooq Ali Talpur and Dr Zahir Ahmed Khan, resource person, master trainer and deputy director of the Business Incubation Centre for organizing the workshop.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by faculty members, students and representatives of partner organizations including Irfan Kumbhar and Sunil Kumar of CWSA Pakistan, Khalil Ahmed from the Deputy Commissioner Office Umerkot, Akhtar Gajo from Water Management and other distinguished guests.
