Lodhran: Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers during separate raids across Lodhran on Saturday and recovered over 12 kilograms of hashish.

According to a police spokesperson,City Police teams conducted raids and apprehended Hayat Rajpoot and Muhammad Asif.

During the operation,1,460 grams of hashish was recovered from Rajpoot while 540 grams were seized from Asif.

In a separate raid led by SHO City Police Dunyapur Naeem-ur-Rehman Meo,police arrested another suspect,Saleem Dogar and recovered 10.56 kilograms of hashish allegedly concealed in a bag.

Police said separate cases have been registered against all three suspects, and further investigations was underway.

District Police Officer (DPO) Capt (R),Ali Bin Tariq said anti-narcotics operations would continue across the district without discrimination.

He added that protecting youth from drugs and ensuring public safety remained top priorities and that strict action would be taken against those involved in drug trafficking.

Faisalabad: The Industries Department launched a crackdown against unlicensed weighing and measuring equipment businesses in Faisalabad and sealed six shops for operating without the mandatory Weights and Measures license.

District Officer Industries Muhammad Irfan accompanied by his inspection team conducted surprise checking along Samundri Road to verify the legal status of businesses dealing in weighing and measuring equipment.

During operation, the team found several establishments operating without the required license under the Weights and Measures laws and immediately initiated legal action by sealing the premises.

The sealed outlets included General Scale Company, Irfan Digital Scale, Unicode Digital Scale, Awami Digital Scale, Qaumi Digital Scale and another shop found violating the licensing regulations.

Speaking on the occasion, District Officer Industries Muhammad Irfan said that the department was committed to ensure strict enforcement of law and maintaining transparency and accuracy in commercial transactions involving weighing and measuring instruments.

He said that obtaining the prescribed license was mandatory for businesses dealing in weighing and measuring equipment. No individual or company would be allowed to conduct such business without fulfilling the legal requirements, he added.

He warned that inspection campaign would continue across the district and strict action would be taken against all violators to protect consumers’ interests and ensure compliance with the relevant laws governing trade and commercial activities.

Sargodha: Three members of a family, including two women were killed on Saturday when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle near Langar Wala Bridge in Sahiwal tehsil, police said.

According to police sources,the victims were identified as Kaniz Bibi(50),her son Kamran(20) and daughter-in-law Umme Kalsoom, residents of Gujranwala village in Shahpur tehsil.

Police said a recklessly driven Mazda truck collided with the motorcycle,resulting in the immediate death of all three riders due to severe injuries.

The truck driver fled the scene after the incident, abandoning the vehicle.

Sahiwal police reached the spot, impounded the truck and shifted the bodies to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Further investigation was underway.

Khanewal: An additional sessions court sentenced a man to death for murder. Additional Sessions Judge Kabirwala Sajeeda Akhtar convicted Muhammad Talha, son of Faqir Muhammad, resident of Kala Ke Minar, Tehsil and District Sheikhupura, in case No. 547/21 registered at Haveli Koranga police station under Section 302.

The court found him guilty of murdering Muhammad Nawaz. The convict was ordered to pay Rs 500,000 as compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased, failing which he will undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.

Under Section 337-F(vi) PPC, the court also ordered him to pay half arsh diyat amounting to about Rs 2,130,602, as per the government notification for fiscal year 2021-22, along with 14 years imprisonment.

All sentences will run concurrently. The court issued warrants directing the Superintendent of Khanewal District Jail to take the convict into custody and implement the court’s orders.

Peshawar: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi and Federal Minister for SAFRON and Provincial President of Pakistan Muslim League-N (KP), Engineer Amir Muqam, have expressed deep sorrow and grief over passing of senior journalist and second news editor of Daily Mashriq, Tariq Mateen.

In separate condolence messages issued on Saturday, both dignitaries paid rich tribute to deceased’s contributions to field of journalism.

They remarked that demise of Tariq Mateen is a significant loss for journalistic community that will be incredibly difficult to replace, adding that his services to profession will always be remembered.

They concluded by praying for departed soul’s forgiveness and for Allah Almighty to grant patience and strength to bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

Haripur: Deputy Commissioner Haripur Islamuddin has imposed Section 144 across the district for one month, banning swimming, boating, bathing and unauthorized fishing in rivers, lakes, ponds, dams and other water bodies to safeguard public life and prevent drowning incidents during the monsoon season.

According to an official notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the restrictions came into effect on June 29 and will remain in force for one month. The ban covers all rivers, lakes, ponds, dams and other water reservoirs within the district.

The district administration warned that anyone found violating the restrictions will face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Authorities said the measure has been taken to protect public life and property and to avert any untoward incidents during the ongoing monsoon season.
