Lahore: A delegation of officers participating in the 47th Mid-Career Management Course met Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi and received a detailed briefing on the modern traffic management system, infrastructure, digital monitoring, e-challaning and public services of Lahore Traffic Police.
During the meeting, the CTO briefed the delegation on driving licence services, smart traffic management, digital enforcement, service infrastructure and measures being taken to ensure compliance with traffic laws.
Abdul Rahim Shirazi said managing traffic of more than 8. 3 million vehicles on over 1, 500 kilometres of roads in a city with a population of around 15 million was a major challenge.
He said traffic management was being further improved through modern technology, effective enforcement and public awareness.
The CTO said Lahore’s travel time was better than that of 149 developed cities of the world, as reported in the World Traffic Index. He said the implementation rate of helmet use had reached 97 percent and lane-line compliance 70 percent under the zero-tolerance policy, while head injury cases had declined by 40 percent.
He said provision of police services, traffic education and effective enforcement were among the top priorities of Lahore Traffic Police. Strict enforcement of traffic laws had resulted in a significant reduction in accidents, while the trend among citizens towards obtaining driving licences had also increased considerably.
The CTO said the number of citizens obtaining driving licences had increased by 300 percent, while a significant decline in calls related to traffic congestion was a clear indication of improved traffic flow.
He said CTPL was continuing efforts to provide more effective and transparent services to citizens through modern technology and digital systems.
At the conclusion of the briefing, the CTO answered questions from the officers and held a detailed discussion with them on various aspects of traffic management.
The officers appreciated the measures taken by Lahore Traffic Police to facilitate citizens, improve traffic flow and effectively utilise modern technology.
