Bahawalpur: Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hasan Raza chaired a review meeting on the Mega Urban Sewerage and Water Supply Scheme in Hasilpur, where the progress of ongoing work, physical completion and future course of action were discussed. The meeting was informed that approximately 80 percent of the physical work on the project, being executed at an estimated cost of Rs890.5 million, had been completed, while work on the remaining components was progressing at a fast pace. The project includes construction and installation of a sewerage system, water supply lines, disposal works, pump houses, water supply infrastructure and a filtration plant. Rehabilitation of roads and provision of other essential civic facilities are also part of the scheme.
Officials further briefed the meeting that the capacity of the drainage channel was also being enhanced under the project. According to the approved design, the drainage channel would have a capacity of 3,050 cusecs, compared with its existing discharge capacity of 2,500 cusecs. Similarly, the designed width of the channel is 130 feet against its current width of 90 feet. Deputy Commissioner Syed Hasan Raza directed the concerned authorities to accelerate the remaining work and complete it within the stipulated timeline. He stressed that quality, transparency and strict adherence to the approved design must be ensured in all construction activities. He also directed the relevant officers to continuously monitor the progress of the project and pay particular attention to the quality of construction work.
The Deputy Commissioner said timely completion of the Mega Urban Sewerage and Water Supply Scheme would provide residents of Hasilpur with improved sewerage and water supply services. The project would also significantly improve the city’s drainage system and help reduce the civic problems faced by the local population.
