Bahawalpur: Member of the National Assembly, Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema, has announced that his son, Chaudhry Wali Dad Cheema, will contest the upcoming by-election from NA-168 Bahawalpur.
Addressing a press conference here, Chaudhary Tariq Bashir Cheema said he had always supported the restoration of Bahawalpur Province throughout his political career. He added that fielding Wali Dad Cheema was part of an effort to bring a younger generation into mainstream politics and prepare new leadership for the future.
Cheema also said he was making a political return to Bahawalpur city after 18 years. He alleged that, in previous elections, political parties had sought votes in the name of restoring Bahawalpur Province but failed to fulfil their promises after coming to power.
Highlighting his political background, he said he had previously served twice as Nazim, was elected Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA), and had also won elections from Bahawalpur city. He claimed that the development projects completed during his tenure continue to serve the public effectively.
He said the decision to nominate Waleedad Cheema reflects a commitment to promoting young leadership capable of representing the people of Bahawalpur and working for the restoration of Bahawalpur Province as well as addressing the region’s key public issues.
