Sukkur: Following the tragic incident at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital in Islamabad, officers from Civil Defence Sukkur, the district administration and Rescue 1122 conducted special visits to various hospitals in Sukkur to review and strengthen fire safety and emergency response arrangements.
On the special directives of Director Civil Defence Sindh Riaz Hussain Laghari, Commissioner Sukkur, Abid Saleem Qureshi and Deputy Commissioner and Controller Civil Defence Sukkur Nadir Shahzad Khan, ADC-I Tanveer Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Khansa Malik, Deputy Chief Warden Civil Defence Sukkur Dr. Saeed Awan, Incharge Officer Mian Jahangir Abbasi and Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Wahid Bakhsh visited Civil Hospital Sukkur, Blood Hospital and Hira Hospital.
During the visits, the officers reviewed fire safety arrangements, emergency exits, firefighting equipment, fire extinguishers, evacuation routes, and other safety measures. Necessary instructions were also given to the concerned hospital administrations to ensure full and effective implementation of fire safety standard operating procedures (SOPs).
ADC-I Tanveer Ahmed said hospitals are highly sensitive places where the safety of patients, attendants, and medical staff should be the top priority. He directed that no negligence in fire safety SOPs would be tolerated and that all hospital administrations must keep fire safety equipment in working condition and provide regular training to staff in fire safety, emergency evacuation and initial safety measures.
He further said that pre-emptive safety measures, trained staff and an effective emergency plan are essential to minimize loss of life in any emergency situation.
Deputy Chief Warden Civil Defence Sukkur Dr. Saeed Awan said on the occasion that Civil Defence will continue training programs and awareness activities regarding fire safety, rescue, first aid and emergency response in hospitals and other sensitive institutions, so that protection of human lives can be ensured effectively in any emergency situation.
Post Warden Mehmood Ahmed, Incharge Officer Fire Safety Lala Rehan Pathan, Shahab Hussain and other Civil Defence and Rescue personnel were also present.
The officers expressed their resolve that mutual cooperation among the concerned departments would continue to improve fire safety standards in Sukkur hospitals and further strengthen their capacity to deal with emergency situations.
