Peshawar: An accountability court here on Friday ordered the confiscation of benami assets allegedly linked to accused Musharaf Shah in the Upper Kohistan scandal, including bank accounts containing Rs 740 million and properties held in the name of his wife and other Benamidars.
The court issued a detailed written judgment while accepting the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) petition seeking confiscation of the assets.
According to the judgment, the court ordered the confiscation of Rs 740 million held in bank accounts of the Benamidars and directed that Rs 400 million from the accounts be transferred to the government account.
The court also ordered the confiscation of a one-kanal and 16-marla house in Abbottabad registered in the name of Musharaf Shah’s wife, besides 3-kanal and 16-marla agricultural land in Besham, Shangla.
The judgment said the Benamidars had agreed before the court to relinquish their claims over the assets, while the money held in the bank accounts was treated as proceeds of crime.
The court noted that Shah’s wife had also stated that the properties had been purchased by her husband.
After examining the statements of the parties and the documents submitted before it, the court accepted the NAB petition and issued orders for confiscation of the identified assets.
