Quetta: On special directive of Balochistan Food Minister and Chairman BFA Haji Noor Muhammad Khan, the Balochistan Food Authority is carrying out a special inspection and crackdown campaign against hotels, restaurants, pizza points and fast food centers in full swing with the aim to ensure standard of edible items.
In this regard, action was taken against 20 more food and beverage centers for violating laws in different areas of Quetta city.
According to the spokesperson of the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA), during the operations, a total of 74 food points were comprehensively inspected across the city, in which fines were imposed on 13 hotels, 6 pizza points and 1 fast food corner for serious violations.
Poor cleanliness, use of spoiled and used cooking oil, harmful colors, Chinese salt and substandard ingredients, as well as unhygienic storage of goods were found in these centers.
During the inspection, several fined food points were found operating without a food business license, for which legal action was taken against the respective owners.
Additionally, a large quantity of unhealthy Chinese salt was seized while unusable cooking oil was destroyed on the spot.
Correction notices were also issued to 18 other centers for minor deficiencies.
Provincial Food Minister and Chairman BFA Haji Noor Muhammad Khan said in this regard that ‘providing safe, quality and healthy food to the public is the top priority of the government, no concessions would be made to those involved in the business of substandard and unhealthy food, full implementation of food laws to be ensured at all costs.’
They added that food business operators should meet the prescribed quality, cleanliness and licensing requirements, otherwise strict legal action would be taken.
According to the spokesperson, recent operations were carried out in respective areas of Quetta including Nawan Killi, Hazar Ganji, Satellite Town, Toghi Road, Mekangi Road, Goli Mar Chowk, Brewery Road and Airport Road, while the inspection campaign would be further intensified in the coming days.
