Lahore: Punjab Minister for Communication and Works (C and W) Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth said that the Buildings Wing had undertaken infrastructure development and revamping of more than 3,000 buildings belonging to 38 departments across Punjab during the past two-and-a-half years.
He was presiding over a meeting held to review the performance of the Buildings Wing during the period, here on Wednesday. Secretary C and W Raja Jahangir Anwar, Additional Secretary, Special Secretary, Chief Engineers Buildings and other senior officers attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that development projects in the health, education and public safety sectors had been completed across the province, besides schemes for police and prisons. The revamping of prominent shrines had also been completed, along with schemes relating to governance and administration, agriculture, industry and tourism.
It was further informed that 1,740 Basic Health Units (BHUs) had been revamped across the province, while the revamping of 28 major tertiary care hospitals had also been completed.
Similarly, infrastructure of 22 special education centres had been developed and modern infrastructure of a state-of-the-art autism school had been completed. The Buildings Wing had also constructed 50 smart police stations and completed 22 judiciary-related schemes.
The meeting was told that safety assessments of 1,033 buildings had been conducted across the province. Through e-tendering, the Buildings Wing had achieved savings of Rs40 billion.
Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth said the architectural design of major projects across the province had been undertaken by the Architecture Wing.
The minister directed the Buildings Wing to regularly publish its annual performance report and said the department had a strong and integrated infrastructure system. He also directed the authorities to formulate a comprehensive plan for further improving the Buildings Wing in line with modern requirements.
He said infrastructure development across Punjab would continue on modern lines under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
