Peshawar: National Commission For Human Development (NCHD) in collaboration with Prisons' Department opened a Literacy Centre to impart education to inmates at Central Jail Haripur.

Superintendent Haripur Jail Hamid Azam Khan formally inaugurated the Literacy Centre the other day, said a press release issued here on Thursday. Besides, Deputy Director NCHD Khalid Mahmood and Field Officer, Iftikhar Ahmad, other officers of the Central Jail Haripur were also present on the occasion.

During the inaugural ceremony textbooks, note-books and other stationery material was distributed among the illiterate inmates of the prison, so they could be enabled to begin learning literacy.

Speaking on the occasion, Superintendent Central Jail Haripur, Hamid Azam Khan said that the purpose of the opening of literacy centre is to provide the opportunity of education to the prisoners, so during their stay in the prisons they may not only improve their academic qualification, rather also play active role in the society.

On this occasion, the officials of NCHD appreciated the steps taken for welfare of the prisoners and cooperating in imparting education to them. The steps, they said are the ample proofs of the efforts of the provincial government and concerned agencies for the welfare of the prisoners.

Faisalabad: Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Rehan Naseem Bharara said on Thursday that the government's economic transformation plan, Uraan Pakistan, would help the government achieve new economic targets in order to make Pakistan a trillion-dollar economy by 2035.

Welcoming the Uraan Pakistan in a statement here, he termed it a major breakthrough in economic stalemate by switching over from import dependence to export centric strategies which was must to get rid of poverty in addition to putting the country on road to progress and prosperity. He stressed the need for consultation with the business community to make the government's economic framework productive, result-oriented and sustained.

He said that direct involvement of the business community in policy formulation was must and with their input the government policies could be fine-tuned to yield better results within a minimum time frame.

Bharara said that there was no dearth of resources and we must take appropriate measures to fully exploit the untapped potential of different sectors.

He said that only five sectors had been identified as key economic drivers including IT, agriculture, export, mineral and mineral resources.

He underlined the importance of the textile sector and said that at least 16 subsectors of this value-added chain were still underutilized.

'If only one percent growth target is fixed for each segment starting from ginning, spinning, weaving, dyeing and calendaring up to finished garments, we could achieve a gross increase of 16% in only one year. Similarly the IT sector has unlimited potential but the government must ensure continuity of the policies in addition to providing a conducive business climate to get maximum share from this services sector', he added.

President FCCI said that the business community could play its key role in stabilizing the economy within a shortest possible time provided the government fulfilled its two basic fundamental responsibilities of providing consistent policies and conducive climate.

Hyderabad: The Sindh government has appointed Dr. Abdul Hameed Khooharo, Senior Medical Officer (BS-19), as the new District Health Officer (BS-19/20) for Jamshoro.

Previously serving as the Additional District Health Officer (BS-19) at the District Health Office in Dadu, Dr. Khooharo assumed his new position following the retirement of Dr. Imamuddin Khoso, on January 10.

According to an official notification issued on 2nd January, Dr. Khooharo will officially take charge of the post after Dr. Khoso’s retirement.

Abbottabad: Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Sanaullah Khan Thursday held an open court session in Khutiala, Tehsil Lower Tanawal.

The initiative aimed to resolve the grievances of residents in rural areas by providing them access to government officials at their doorstep.

Addressing the gathering, DC Sanaullah Khan reiterated the district administration's commitment to prioritizing the resolution of issues faced by rural communities. He assured the public that similar open court sessions would continue in remote areas to address their problems effectively.

A significant number of residents attended the session to voice their concerns. Sanaullah Khan listened to the complaints and issued immediate directives to the relevant departments for their resolution. Additionally, several complaints were recorded, and instructions were given to seek reports from the respective departments for further action.

Participants appreciated the efforts of the district administration and called for the organization of more open court sessions to ensure timely redressal of public grievances.

Open Court was attended by senior officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Usman Ashraf, DHO Dr. Shehzad Iqbal, AAC Arshad Mehmood, and Deputy Director Database Service Delivery Center Farah Masood. Representatives from other departments, such as public health, local government, education, WAPDA, police, agriculture, livestock, and industries, were also present to address public concerns on the spot.

Rawalpindi: The representatives of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) belonging to Rawalpindi on Thursday announced to participate fully in the upcoming local government elections and complete development works in education and health, including the TB hospital and drain project soon.

They welcomed the provision of development schemes by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif at the level of union councils.

They were addressing the convention of the former local bodies' chairmen, vice chairmen and councillors, and party officials from across the city held under the leadership of PML-N Metropolitan President and former mayor Sardar Naseem.

Member of National Assembly Hanif Abbasi, in his address, said Nawaz Sharif was the only leader of the PML-N. He was fully committed to the party, which was evident from the 25-year prison sentence he had faced, he added.

Expressing his commitment to serve the people selflessly, Abbasi said,'The lies, deceit, abuse and politics of 'oh, oh, oh' of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder will end forever.

'We will unite the PML-N workers at the union council level. We will complete all development works soon and will participate fully in the upcoming local government elections and give the party leadership the result of the 2015 victory.'

Hanif Abbasi said the party workers who had made sacrifices would get their rightful place. 'In the future, the distribution of tickets will be done through consultation and on merit. No MNA or MPA will interfere,' he added.

He said they were fully monitoring the affairs of the Municipal Corporation, Health Department, Education Department and police stations. 'We will be held accountable if any UC secretary charges even one rupee more than the prescribed government fee for issuance of birth certificates and death certificates,' he added.

Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Daniyal Tanveer Chaudhry said that both the government and the Pakistan armed forces were serving and protecting the country, and 'we will unite and thwart all the conspiracies of non-state actors'.

'Those who had come to get dead bodies at the D Chowk did not get anything. Now, the politics of arson, violence, and hatred will have to die. Only a progressive Pakistan will prevail.

'We will give pens and books to our children, and not shrouds and guns,' he added.

Sardar Naseem said that during his one and a half years stint as Rawalpindi Mayor, he got development works worth billions of rupees done in the city.

The PDM government under the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif, he said, saved the country from bankruptcy. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was working day and night to formulate and complete public welfare projects, he added.

Former MNAs Haji Pervez Khan and Malik Shakeel Awan, Provincial Parliamentary Secretary for Information Shazia Rizwan, Chairman of the Chief Minister Inspection Team Punjab Raja Hanif, Members of Provincial Assembly Ziaullah Shah, Zeinul Nisa Awan, Rifaat Abbasi and Begum Tahseen Fawad, and Rahat Quddusi also addressed the convention.

Sargodha: The Human Resource Development Center (HRDC) at the University of Sargodha began a two-day training workshop for grade 17 and 18 administrative officers. The workshop aimed to enhance the skills and capabilities of the university's management staff.

University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of professional development in improving institutional efficiency and effectiveness.

The notable speakers included Prof. Dr. Yousaf Bashir from the University of Gujrat, Director ORIC UoS Prof. Dr. Ahmad Raza Bilal, and Consultant HRDC Khursheed Yousaf. While around 50 administrative officers participated in the workshop.

He emphasized that the effective use of technology not only streamlines office operations but also enhances performance. He illustrated the benefits of technology through practical examples, stating that a well-organized, tech-based system can give any institution a competitive edge.

Prof. Dr. Ahmad Raza Bilal delivered a lecture on Financial Management in Institutions, stressing the importance of proper financial resource allocation and planning. He highlighted financial oversight, budgeting, and efficient resource distribution as key factors in driving institutional growth.

Khursheed Yousaf discussed Systemic Thinking, explaining that a successful institution operates when all systems work in harmony. He urged administrative officers to adopt a comprehensive strategy and broader perspective in problem-solving, ensuring that all systems are interconnected and aligned for better overall performance.
