Astore: The first meeting of the Central Emergency Works Committee (CEWC) was held today under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary (Development), Gilgit-Baltistan, at his office.
The committee reviewed in detail the case regarding the emergency restoration of Khechek Road in Astore Valley, which was severely damaged and disconnected at several locations due to the recent floods. During the meeting, members assessed the extent of the damage, the current situation, and the measures required to restore traffic and ensure the early resumption of public transportation.
After a comprehensive review of all aspects of the case, the committee approved Rs. 49 million (Rs. 4. 9 crore) for the emergency restoration of Khechek Road. The completion of the project will restore the damaged road, improve connectivity in Astore Valley, and significantly reduce the travel difficulties faced by the local population.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary, Communication and Works Department, the Additional Secretary Home, the Additional Secretary Finance, the Commissioner Diamer-Astore Division, the Deputy Commissioner Astore, and relevant officials from the Planning and Development Department.
The Chairman of the Committee directed the concerned departments to complete the emergency restoration work within the stipulated timeframe, ensure strict compliance with all rules and regulations, and maintain the highest construction standards without compromise so that the public can benefit from safe and reliable road access at the earliest.
