Quetta: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that a just and fair resolution of the Kashmir issue is indispensable for ensuring lasting peace in South Asia, reiterating Pakistan’s principled stance on the long-standing dispute.
In a special message marking Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination Day, the Chief Minister recalled that 77 years ago, the United Nations formally recognized the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. He regretted that despite this international acknowledgment, the Kashmiri nation continues to be deprived of its fundamental and internationally recognized right.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Bugti said that Indian atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) are ongoing, with innocent civilians facing grave human rights violations. He termed the silence of the international community on these abuses as deeply unfortunate and condemnable, raising serious questions about the credibility of global human rights advocates.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the people and government of Balochistan stand shoulder to shoulder with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters. He reaffirmed that Balochistan would continue to extend moral and diplomatic support to their legitimate struggle at all levels.
Sarfraz Bugti stressed that the Kashmiri people must be granted their right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations resolutions. He added that without a fair and lasting settlement of the Kashmir dispute, sustainable peace in South Asia cannot be achieved.
