Hyderabad: Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi invited the Headmistress Hira Rafique, teachers and students of Government Girls High School, Tando Mir Ghulam Hussain, Latifabad Unit No. 9, to the Commissioner Office to congratulate them on the school’s remarkable achievement of being ranked among the world’s top 10 finalists for the World’s Best School Prizes and its recent upgrade from a girls’ lower secondary school to a high school.
Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon, Assistant Commissioner Latifabad Saud Baloch, ADC-II Mehwish Buriro and Assistant Commissioner General Saima Noor were also present on the occasion.
Talking to the delegation, Commissioner Abbasi said the teachers of government schools had proved that with dedication, commitment and hard work, they could outperform private educational institutions. He said the division was proud to have such an institution and stressed that after earning international recognition, the real challenge was to maintain the same standard of excellence and continuity.
He emphasized the importance of character-building among students so they would grow into responsible citizens committed to serving humanity.
Expressing his aspirations, the commissioner said he hoped the institution would one day be upgraded into a university.
During the meeting, the teachers briefed the commissioner on the school’s journey of progress, achievements and the challenges it had faced. They said the school’s consistent efforts and quality education had resulted in the closure of two nearby private schools due to increased public confidence in the government institution.
The issue of child marriage also came under discussion, with the commissioner stressing the need to eliminate the harmful practice to ensure girls had greater opportunities to pursue education.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Commissioner Abbasi congratulated the headmistress, teachers and students on their outstanding success and presented them with traditional Sindhi Ajraks and commemorative gifts in recognition of their achievement.
