Lahore: Commissioner Lahore Division Noman Yousaf on Tuesday conducted visits to Mian Munshi Hospital, Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) Sagian Workshop and Mahmood Booti to review public healthcare facilities, cleanliness arrangements, waste management operations and ongoing environmental projects in the city.
At Mian Munshi Hospital, the commissioner inspected the emergency, wards and other departments and reviewed the provision of medical facilities to patients. Assistant Commissioner City Rana Amir and the medical superintendent briefed him about the hospital’s functioning and arrangements.
The commissioner also interacted with patients and inquired about the treatment facilities being provided to them, particularly the availability of free medicines. He inspected the medicine store and reviewed the availability, batches and distribution of medicines besides checking the duty roster and overall cleanliness arrangements.
He paid special attention to the cleanliness of washrooms and other public areas and directed the hospital administration to maintain the required standards of hygiene.
Noman Yousaf said medical facilities and cleanliness arrangements at public hospitals were being reviewed according to a scheduled programme on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He stressed that no compromise would be made on cleanliness standards, while a zero-tolerance policy was being followed regarding hygiene at canteens, parking areas and other public facilities.
Later, the commissioner visited the LWMC Sagian Workshop, where the company’s chief executive officer briefed him on operational activities, vehicle maintenance and repair facilities.
The commissioner was informed that truck-art-decorated waste containers were being placed at important roads and tourist locations, while mechanical sweepers, vacuum sweepers and other operational vehicles were being utilised for improved cleanliness and waste management in the city. He was also briefed about the painting and branding of LWMC vehicles.
Noman Yousaf said that, in accordance with the Chief Minister’s directions, uniform waste bins were being installed in commercial markets to improve the collection and disposal of solid waste.
The commissioner subsequently visited the Mahmood Booti Compost Plant, where he reviewed ongoing projects related to waste segregation and composting. He was briefed about the Black Soldier Fly project, which officials said could serve as a source of protein and vermicompost.
He was also briefed on the treatment of leachate water and methane following the scientific closure of the Mahmood Booti dumpsite.
The commissioner also inspected the Mahmood Booti urban forest and solar project, being implemented in collaboration with the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and LWMC, and reviewed progress on the environmental initiatives.
The commissioner directed the concerned authorities to ensure effective implementation of cleanliness, waste management and environmental protection measures for providing citizens with a clean and healthy urban environment.
