Quetta: Commissioner Lasbela Division Saira Atta on Wednesday asked the administrative authorities to inform the reasons for the closure of 93 schools in Awaran and to immediately terminate the contracts of teachers who are remained prolong absent from their duties.
She said that monitoring of the teaching staff should be ensured and more other teachers would be recruited on merit to meet shortage of teachers in the area.
She said this while chairing a meeting at the Lasbela Industrial Estates Development Authority (LIEDA) Conference Hall Hub regarding the progress of development projects in Awaran district.
In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Awaran Aqeel Karim gave a detailed briefing to the Commissioner on the overall situation related to the development issues of law and order, Balochistan Special Development Initiative (BSDI) projects, health education, local government and road infrastructure in the district.
In the briefing, the Commissioner was told that electricity supply in Awaran district is running on generators, the work of the Awaran-Mishke National Grid Link is pending, the work of installing a Gashkoor pole from Awaran has been started.
He said that 51 percent of schools in Awaran are deprived of electricity facilities. In the briefing about the road sector, it was informed that work is underway on the Hoshab-Awaran section under the supervision of NHA, while the contractor firm working on the 86-kilometer Awaran-Bela Road has yet to transfer the machinery to the site.
The Commissioner directed the DC in the meeting to immediately contact the NHA authorities and stop the contractor from working on the main highway of Bela-Awaran Link Road so that the machinery could be immediately transported to the site.
The DC informed the briefing that the literacy rate in Awaran district is 36.3 percent, School buildings have been constructed in the first phase under BSDI, a special awareness campaign has been planned regarding BSDI to increase the school enrollment rate of girls and school dropout.
It was informed in the briefing that the recruitment of vacant posts in each health department at the divisional level is being done on contract.
During the briefing, the Commissioner issued orders to immediately appoint the Divisional Director, identify the shortage of human resources and write a Secretary Health Coordinator.
She also asked the administrative authorities to inform the reasons for the closure of 93 schools in Awaran and to immediately terminate the contracts of teachers who are remained prolong absent from their duties.
She said that monitoring of the teaching staff should be ensured and more other teachers would be recruited to meet shortage of teachers in the area.
She said that in this regard, she would visit Awaran soon.
DC Awaran said that despite the vacancies being advertised by the Public Service Commission, 90 posts of SST Science and 106 posts of SST General are vacant due to non-participation of candidates.
The briefing was attended by officers of the Road Building Section of the Department of Communication and Construction, Health Department, Local Government Department, Agricultural Engineering Department, and Chief Officers of the Department of Agriculture and Local Government.
