Quetta: Secretary Local Government and Rural Development, Abdul Rauf Baloch, chaired a meeting to review the progress of the Integrated Solid Waste Management Project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, with a focus on the release of required funds and the performance of SAFA Quetta.
The meeting was attended by Chief Officer Metropolitan Corporation Quetta, Nazar Zehri, along with senior officials and technical staff. Participants discussed financial matters, transfer of funds to the Escrow Account, project implementation progress, and services being provided by SAFA Quetta.
Officials briefed the Secretary on the current status of the project, challenges faced, and measures being taken to improve efficiency. Addressing the meeting, Baloch emphasized that effective solid waste management and improved sanitation in Quetta are among the government’s top priorities.
He noted that the project will modernize the system of waste collection, transfer, and disposal, ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for citizens.
He directed that financial and administrative processes be completed promptly in accordance with prescribed procedures, so that funds can be transferred to the Escrow Account and implementation accelerated.
He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among all relevant institutions and called for a stronger monitoring mechanism to ensure transparency, accountability, and achievement of set targets.
The Secretary further said that SAFA Quetta’s performance and services under the project will be regularly reviewed, with available resources utilized effectively to provide citizens with improved sanitation facilities.
