Lahore: Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ejaz on Tuesday visited the District Control Room established at the DC Office to review security and administrative arrangements for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and for Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh Ali Hajveri (RA).
During the visit, the deputy commissioner was briefed on the implementation of the security plan and monitoring mechanism for both religious events. He was informed that all arrangements were being monitored round the clock through the control room.
Officials informed the meeting that all 15 trouble points identified for the Urs had been cleared, while wall chalking had been removed, procession routes repaired and patched, and streetlights made fully functional. A dedicated site had also been allocated for a milk distribution point outside Data Darbar, where 44 CCTV cameras had been installed for surveillance.
The DC was informed that five parking sites had been designated for devotees at Government Central Model School, Lower Mall, Rettingan Road, Government Civil Lines College and Muslim Model High School, Rettingan Road. As many as 150 Civil Defence volunteers and 4, 278 police personnel would perform security duties during the Urs.
Regarding the Chehlum arrangements, officials said all five sensitive points had been cleared, while 196 CCTV cameras had been installed along procession routes. Around 300 male and female Civil Defence volunteers and 4, 481 police personnel had been deployed to ensure security.
The meeting was further informed that Rescue 1122 had placed 200 personnel on high alert, while all public hospitals would remain on emergency footing. A temporary 25-bed hospital had also been established at Government Central Model School to provide medical care during the events.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ejaz said all arrangements for the Urs and Chehlum were being continuously monitored through the district control room. He said facilities, including parking, milk distribution points and medical services, had been ensured for the convenience of devotees and mourners.
