Hyderabad: District Election Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad, Muhammad Yousuf Majeedano, chaired an important meeting of District Inclusive Coordination Committee (IDCC) Tuesday in order to promote inclusive voter registration, particularly for women and persons with disabilities, under the Inclusive NIC/Voter Registration Phase-V initiative.
The meeting reviewed measures to reduce the gap between male and female voter registration, increase the registration of women and other marginalized groups, and facilitate the issuance of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs).
Speaking on the occasion, District Election Commissioner said that on the special directives of Election Commission of Pakistan, and in collaboration with National Database and Registration Authority, mobile CNIC registration van camps have been established in various areas of the district. These efforts have significantly contributed to reducing the gender gap, with a notable number of women obtaining CNICs and getting registered as voters.
He emphasized that all relevant departments must strengthen coordination and cooperation to ensure that all eligible individuals, who are still not registered as voters, are included in the electoral rolls.
He added that increasing voter registration among women, persons with disabilities, and other underrepresented segments is essential for a transparent and inclusive democratic process.
Participants of the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to raising public awareness and simplifying the CNIC issuance and voter registration process.
The meeting was attended by District Population Officer Javed Ahmed Mallah, NADRA Incharge Abdul Razzaq Bhatti, Municipal Commissioner Abdul Razzaq Sheikh, Office Superintendent Asad Ali Memon, Deputy Director Health Dr. Ashfaq Ali Mashori, District Education Officer Muhammad Saleem Bhatti, representatives from local government, women development, municipal corporation, information department, Dar-ul-Aman, NGOs, civil society, and other relevant institutions, as well as members of the IDCC.
