Hyderabad:Divisional Director Social Welfare Department Ghulam Muhammad alias Sarang Sahtio has urged officers and employees of the department, as well as social organizations and individuals associated with it, to play an active role in identifying and preventing social evils in their respective areas.
He was speaking while presiding over a meeting of Social Welfare Department officers held in Nawabshah.
Additional Director Murtaza Gohar Salehani, Deputy Director VA Division Manzoor Hussain Mallah and Deputy Director Volunteer Agency Shaheed Benazirabad Dildar Ali Solangi also addressed the meeting.
Sarang Sahtio directed district and taluka-level officers to regularly visit offices of NGOs working in their respective areas and strengthen coordination with their office-bearers, workers and prominent social figures.
He said social workers played an important role in improving society and creating awareness among the public, directing officers to extend all possible legal and moral support to NGOs and social workers.
He said the Sindh government had enacted laws for the protection of women and children, stressing the need to organize seminars, programmes and meetings at the local level to raise awareness about their rights and protection, particularly that of children.
The divisional director said the Social Welfare Department, under government patronage, should effectively convey the government’s message to people in every street and village, promote awareness about public rights and play a supportive role in protecting and improving their welfare.
Assistant Directors from various talukas, including Zulfiqar Ali Rind, Rafi Raza Lakhmeer, Khalid Hussain Lakho, Shah Murad Rind and Javed Ahmed Lakhmeer, presented their monthly performance reports and shared suggestions for improving departmental performance.
Their performance and suggestions were appreciated at the meeting.
