Eight killed, 37 injured in rain-related incidents across Punjab


Lahore: At least eight people were killed and 37 others injured in rain- and windstorm-related incidents across Punjab during the last 24 hours. According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson on Wednesday, Gujranwala reported eight incidents of roof and wall collapses caused by heavy rain, leaving three people dead and 14 injured. Three other rain-related incidents, including electrocution cases, claimed one life and injured two others.

The spokesperson said a child drowned in accumulated rainwater at an underpass in Kamoke, Gujranwala.

In Pakpattan, two people were killed and two others injured when the mud roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rainfall.

In Sahiwal, a woman lost her life after the roof of a house collapsed in Kot Khadim Ali Shah, while three people were injured in a separate roof collapse at a shop in Harappa.

In Lahore, four people sustained injuries after the roof of a house collapsed near Gulshan Ravi on Band Road.

Rescue 1122 said eight people were injured in Mandi Bahauddin when roofs a
nd walls of houses collapsed in different villages due to heavy rain.

In Bahawalnagar, one person was injured after a shed collapsed near Al-Jannat Chowk on Khan Baba Road, while three people were injured in Sialkot after the collapse of a T.R. girder roof.

The spokesperson added that incidents of partial landslides and fallen trees were also reported in Murree and Kahuta following the rain.
