Engineers play key role in economic growth: governor

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman said on Thursday that engineers play key role in economic growth and development of the country and significantly contribute to improving life of people.

 

He was talking to Chairman Engineering Development Board (EDB) Ministry of Commerce and Investment Almas Hyder, who called on him here at Governor’s House.

 

Baligh-ur-Rehman said there was an important link between the country’s engineering capacity and its economic development. He said industrial engineering had also provided a systematic approach to streamlining and improving productivity and efficiency.

 

The governor said that engineering disciplines integrate scientific principles with real life-oriented research, providing systems and process that create ways of acquiring new knowledge. He said that the integration makes engineering critical to successful industrial innovation. He said the government was committed to strengthening the engineering base on sound footing to bring industrial revolution in the country. He said it would promise better lifestyle to downtrodden strata of society.

 

Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman said that the government always attached great importance to business community and it wanted to ensure provision of healthy environment for ease of doing business. He assured Almas Hyder of early redress of genuine grievances of industrialists regarding unlawful notices by the city district government.

 

Later, Almas Hyder briefly informed the governor about the working of EDB that 21 cellular companies assembled 46 million mobile phones in Pakistan in the last 11 month. Ninety-eight per cent of those phones have been sold in local markets, he added. He said that 10 more companies were in a process of establishing their plants including Nokia.
