Five KP districts pilfered Rs 125bln electricity in two years

PESHAWAR:The menace of power theft in five major districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caused a loss of Rs 125 billion to the national kitty during the last two years, an official data revealed.

According to the document about the power theft in Peshawar, the provincial capital, was much more than any other district of the province, adding that Rs 60 billion electricity was stolen during two the last years.

District Mardan, which according to the 2017 census, consists of 308,409 households and a population of 2,373,061, illegally consumed Rs 22 billion electricity during the period.

DI Khan is the third district of the province that caused Rs 20 billion loss to the national kitty by illegally consuming electricity from 2021 to 2023. The district had 204,722 households and a population of 1,693,594.

The district Bannu remained at the forefront in contributing its share in the power pilferage and stole Rs worth 19 billion rupees in the last two years.

The district Swat which is also known as mini Switzerland due to its natural beauty also stole Rs 04 billion electricity.
