Haroon Akhtar assumes charge as PM’s Adviser on Industries and Production


Islamabad: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar on Tuesday assumed charge as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, with the status of a federal minister, following notification of his appointment by the Cabinet Division on the directives of the President.



Having a distinguished record of business success and public service, Haroon Akhtar has twice served as a senator and was elected twice as a member of the Punjab Assembly.



Haroon Akhtar holds a Master of Science degree in Actuarial Science and Business Administration from the University of Manitoba, Canada.



He is also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (USA) and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. At the time of his qualification, he became the youngest actuary in the history of the profession.



Before returning to Pakistan, he gained extensive experience in the United States and Canada in corporate governance, economics, planning and forecasting, modelling, and investment.



From 2015 to 2018, he served as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Revenue, with the status of a federal minister.



As a senator from 2006 to 2012, he served as a senior member of the standing committees on (1) Finance, Economic Affairs, Revenue, Statistics and Planning and Development; (2) Commerce; (3) Industries and Production; (4) Petroleum, Natural Resources and Minerals; and (5) Sports, Culture and Tourism.



His continuous engagement with the business community and industrial leaders for more than three decades has provided him with extensive experience in economics, business, industry and the public sector.



Throughout his career, he has worked to strengthen cooperation between businesses and government, bringing investors, industrialists and regulators together on a common platform.



Through these efforts, he has contributed to strengthening investor confidence, fostering industrial partnerships and promoting industrial development.
