Hazara region to strengthen disaster preparedness under KP risk reduction policy

Abbottabad: A consultative workshop on the implementation of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Disaster Risk Reduction Policy 2026-2030 was held in Abbottabad to identify district-level priorities and measures for reducing the impact of natural disasters.



Additional Commissioner Hazara Division Javed Iqbal chaired the workshop, which was attended by DRM Adviser PDMA Ismail Yousafzai, Additional Deputy Commissioners from the eight districts of Hazara Division, officials of various departments and relevant experts.



The participants reviewed potential disaster risks, existing preparedness arrangements, challenges and priority needs in different districts of the division.



They discussed measures for improving preparedness, ensuring timely response to disasters, reducing losses and strengthening coordination among relevant institutions.



The workshop also recommended incorporating district-specific disaster risk reduction measures into the five-year plan under the provincial policy, keeping in view the geographical, climatic and local requirements of Hazara districts.



DRM Adviser PDMA Ismail Yousafzai briefed the participants on the policy priorities, institutional responsibilities and proposed measures for reducing disaster risks.



Addressing the workshop, Additional Commissioner Javed Iqbal said consultative sessions of this nature were important for effective policymaking and disaster preparedness.



He stressed the need for advance planning, coordinated strategies and stronger institutional capacity to deal with emergencies and reduce risks associated with natural disasters.
