Rawalpindi: Major tertiary care hospitals across Rawalpindi have scaled up clinical arrangements and expanded dedicated isolation facilities to manage an expected influx of dengue patients during the peak post-monsoon transmission season, medical superintendents confirmed on Thursday.
At District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Rawalpindi, Medical Superintendent Dr. Ikramullah Niazi said that a fully operational 24-hour dengue counter has been established, staffed by dedicated medical officers across three rotating shifts.
Talking to reporter, Dr Ikram informed equipped with real-time dengue testing machines and climate-controlled isolation facilities, the hospital currently maintains a 50-bed dedicated capacity, which can be rapidly expanded to 100 beds if patient volume escalates.
Dr. Ikram Niazi added that while daily admissions remain manageable, hospital data shows a substantial portion of incoming suspected cases originate from surrounding areas and neighbouring Islamabad, with transmission metrics expected to peak through October and November.
On the other hand, Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) has alerted its specialized dengue ward to handle incoming cases. Medical Superintendent Dr. Sharjeel Sheikh confirmed to reporter that the hospital has allocated 42 dedicated isolation beds along with a specialized 6-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU) equipped with advanced biomedical monitoring devices.
Dr. Sheikh added that special medical duty rosters stand finalized for instant deployment to ensure seamless patient care as the seasonal rise.
Similarly, Holy Family Hospital has also prepared accordingly, where dengue patients are detected during recent weeks. A spokesman said that hospital has already been capacitated upto the the requirements, along with dedicated dengue beds and sufficient medical staff. However, patient influx in general OPD has already increased.
Although the dengue prevention efforts by health authorities are at full swing and situation is under control, the allied hospitals in Rawalpindi have scaled up their preparations to combat any untoward events.
