Karachi: Additional Inspector General of Police – Karachi Azad Khan on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review security and administrative arrangements for the peaceful observance of processions of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), Milad gatherings and other religious events during the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
The meeting, held at the Karachi Police Office, was attended by senior police officers, religious scholars, organisers of processions and Milad gatherings, and other stakeholders, according to a news release.
During the meeting, the participants discussed security, traffic management, procession routes, encroachments, parking, sanitation, street lighting and other administrative matters. Religious scholars and organisers also presented their suggestions and recommendations for ensuring the smooth conduct of the events.
Addressing the meeting, Azad Khan said ensuring the peaceful and secure observance of all religious gatherings during the holy month of Rabi-ul-Awwal remained the top priority of Karachi Police.
He directed the concerned police officers to finalise the security plan well in advance, ensure enhanced surveillance at sensitive locations, maintain close coordination with procession and Milad organisers, and work in close collaboration with all relevant departments to facilitate participants.
The Karachi police chief also instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive traffic management plan to ensure the smooth flow of traffic along procession routes and to publicise alternative routes in advance for the convenience of commuters.
The meeting agreed to further strengthen coordination and cooperation between Karachi Police, religious scholars and event organisers to maintain law and order, promote religious harmony and ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
