Karachi: Karachi Traffic Police on Monday issued a comprehensive traffic management plan for the central Chehlum procession of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) to be held on 20 Safar 1448 AH (August 4), to facilitate commuters and ensure smooth traffic flow.
According to the traffic plan issued on Monday, the central procession will commence from Nishtar Park at 9:00 a. m. on Tuesday and, after passing through its traditional route, will conclude at Imam Bargah Hussainia Iranian, Kharadar.
During the procession, M. A. Jinnah Road from Guru Mandir to Tower will remain closed to all types of traffic.
Traffic from Nazimabad will be diverted via Lasbela, Garden and Nishtar Road, while vehicles coming from Liaquatabad will be diverted from Lasbela Chowk towards Nazimabad No. 10.
Motorists travelling from Hasan Square to PPP Chowrangi will be directed through Sharea Quaideen, Society Light Signal and Teen Hatti to Lasbela Chowk.
Traffic from Shahrah-e-Faisal will be diverted via Society Light Signal and Sher Shah Suri Road, while commuters travelling from Jamshed Road towards Guru Mandir have been advised to use Bahadur Yar Jang Road or Soldier Bazaar Road.
Vehicles travelling from Garden Zoo towards M. A. Jinnah Road have been advised to use New M. A. Jinnah Road, Plaza and Coast Guard Chowrangi as alternate routes.
The traffic police said all roads along the procession route would remain closed to general traffic throughout the procession.
Parking of all types of vehicles on M. A. Jinnah Road will be strictly prohibited.
The police further directed that vehicles accompanying the procession must display the prescribed special stickers, adding that vehicles without authorised stickers would not be allowed to enter the procession route.
Participants have also been advised to join the procession only through the designated entry points, according to the traffic police.
