Khawaja Salman calls for unity among ulema for peace in Punjab


Lahore: A series of meetings with scholars representing all schools of thought is continuing at the Home Department on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.



In this regard, a delegation of Tehreek-e-Ahl-e-Sunnah scholars, led by Chairman Muttahida Ulema Board Punjab Mufti Intikhab Ahmed Noori, on Monday met Provincial Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Khawaja Salman Rafique. The meeting discussed the overall law and order situation in Punjab.



Secretary Home Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi, Special Secretary Home Faisal Farid, DIG Special Branch Sajjad Manj, Syed Tahir Raza Bukhari, DG Auqaf Hafiz Anees-ur-Rehman, Additional Secretary Internal Security Javeria Maqbool, Additional Secretary Special Initiative Abdul Rauf, SSP Operations Punjab, SSP CTD and other officials attended the meeting.



The delegation included Central President Syed Marabat Ali Shah, General Secretary Atiullah Rizvi, South Punjab President Muhammad Mohib-un-Nabi Rizvi, Central Nazim-e-Ala Dr Mufti Muhammad Younus Rizvi, Maulana Sahibzada Ziaullah Rizvi, Rawalpindi Division President Dr Muhammad Tayyab Raza Qadri, Divisional President Muhammad Fazal Rasool Rizvi, Muhammad Abu Bakr and Chief Organiser Syed Haider Raza.



Khawaja Salman Rafique said consultations with respected scholars representing all schools of thought were continuing under the leadership of the chief minister. He said religious scholars had a fundamental role in promoting peace in Punjab.



‘We have to rise above all differences and unite for the security of Pakistan, ‘ he said, adding that the Cyber Patrol Cell of the Home Department was continuing effective operations against sectarianism.



The minister said all schools of thought were on the same page regarding Pakistan’s security and stability.



Secretary Home Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi said religious scholars were playing a key role in maintaining peace. He said the government was pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against those spreading sectarianism through social media.



He said the Home Department had so far reported more than 13, 000 objectionable social media accounts to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).



Mufti Intikhab Ahmed Noori said Tehreek-e-Ahl-e-Sunnah stood with the Punjab government’s efforts to promote unity among Muslims. He said scholars from all schools of thought were working alongside the state to promote peace and mutual harmony.



He also paid tribute to the Punjab Home Department and law enforcement agencies for their efforts to maintain peace.



The meeting concluded with a special prayer for the progress, security and prosperity of Pakistan and the establishment of peace.
