Peshawar: Funeral prayer for Malagori Police Station SHO Riaz Hussain, who was martyred while performing his duty in Khyber district, was laid to rest with full state honours at Police Lines Khyber, Shakas, on Sunday.
Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs Tariq Saeed Marwat, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah, DPO Khyber Waqar Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali, military officials, elected representatives, police officers and personnel, members of the bereaved family and local elders attended the funeral.
The police officer was martyred during an operation against the movement of non-custom-paid vehicles in the Malagori area of Khyber district.
Tariq Saeed Marwat paid tribute to Riaz Hussain and expressed condolences to his family, saying the officer had sacrificed his life while discharging his professional responsibilities and protecting the public.
He said the sacrifices of police and security personnel in the fight against terrorism and crime were a matter of pride for the nation, adding that the sacrifices of martyrs would not go in vain.
The special assistant said the provincial government stood by the families of martyrs and would continue supporting police and other law-enforcement personnel in safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.
He also prayed for the departed soul and for patience and strength for the bereaved family.
