KARACHI:Sindh Caretaker Minister for Home and Prisons Brig.(R) Haris Nawaz on Wednesday paid a surprise visit to Central Jail Karachi where he reviewed the facilities being provided to the prisoners.
He inspected the barracks of male and female inmates and apprised himself of their problems; and inquired about the behavior of the jail staff toward prisoners.
He also inspected the prison kitchen and checked the standard of meals and list of daily menus being served to the prisoners.
The minister also visited different sections of the prison including the hospital, vocational training centre and art gallery. “Prisoners are also human beings, they should get basic facilities; social reforms would translate to a reduction in the number of inmates”, he observed.
Brig. Haris Nawaz stressed the cleanliness of the jail, and on occasion issued directives to authorities concerned to pay heed to it.
Inspector General of Prisons Anwar Mustafa and Superintendent Central Prison Hassan Sehto were also present during the visit of the minister.
