Livestock department helping promote better animal breeds, Minister

Hyderabad:Sindh Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani has said that the livestock department is playing an important role in the province’s development by helping farmers produce better breeds of animals.



Addressing the department’s official here on Thursday, he added that they were also helping the country earn foreign exchange and strengthen the national economy by contributing to the exports.



Malkani noted that the department provided service of artificial insemination of semen was providing livestock farmers in Sindh with opportunities to produce improved breeds and increase milk and meat production.



According to him, the animal breeding sector alone could play a significant role in the development of Sindh.



He directed the officers to ensure transparency in implementation of development projects.



He expressed hope that the department would succeed in ensuring that the benefits of those projects reached the people.



The minister further stressed the need to give priority to public-private partnerships in the fisheries sector.



He also directed the department to ensure that seasonal vaccination targets were achieved so that livestock belonging to farmers across Sindh could be protected from various diseases.



He was earlier briefed about various ongoing projects of the Livestock and Fisheries Department at the office of the World Bank-funded Sindh Livestock and Agriculture Development Project (SLADP) in Hyderabad.



Secretary Livestock and Fisheries Dr Kazim Hussain Jatoi, Director General Livestock Sindh Dr Hizbullah Bhutto, Director General Livestock Registration and Trade Authority Dr Nazir Hussain Kalhoro, among other officers, attended the meeting.
